Innotox: Liquid Botulinum Toxin that changes the game

In 2013 Korea Food and Drug Administration (KFDA) for the first time approved liquid injectable form of Botulinum Toxin Type A entitled Innotox. The drug itself is a ready-to-use sterile liquid with concentration of 4U/0.1ml. Due to the improved consistency of Innotox, there is no need in mixing botox with saline as before and, therefore, the risks of innacurate dosing or ingress of bacteria are excluded. If the drug is stored according to the rules specified by the manufacturer, it shall save its qualities until the expiry date (for 36 months). Plus the process of shipping is also facilitated because the components of Innotox do not face a risk of botulism.

Talking about common traits, we should mention that the molecular weight of Innotox analysed with size exclusion SE-HPLC, equals 900 kDa. That is comparable both to Neuronox and Botox – all three types of medications are also predicted by the same Hall strain of C.botulinum.

Let’s figure out the main differences between medicines of the same action. The most unique feature of discussed Innotox – substances of animal origin are excluded from the manufacturing process. So the risks connected with animal-based proteins do not apply to this remedy. Human serum albumin that is usually used in this kind of formula, also stayed out of the consistency – it is replaced by methionine and polysorbate that have practically the same stabilising qualities.

For safety and efficacy Innotox has passed a number of  double-blinded, randomized multi-center tests with 168 subjects. For example, the patients of different age with moderate or severe glabellar lines were treated with 20U of Innotox or Botox and then examined by the experts, who didn’t know which drug exactly was used. Both groups showed the same result, no allergic reactions or other side effects were observed.

Innotox is based on a plant-origin culture, and that is the reason why this medicine is “bio-better” than its animal-original analogues. Moreover, Innotox lasts longer. The average cost of standard dosage ($400) is comparatively cheaper than the cost of face lift surgery. Due to these advantages Innotox is more profitable for the patients – it saves their money and time, because for the best result injections should be supplied every four to six months, less frequently compared to other Botulinum toxin analogues.

The global pharmaceutical company Allergan, that produces Botox, signed the agreement about international marketing of Innotox without distribution in Korea and Japan. Impressed by the technology “raised” on plant-origin culture, Allergan is going to pay $365 million for licensing a new neurotoxin by the global biopharmaceutical company Medytox.

If you are a part of the professional cosmetology community, we want to warn you: do not buy Innotox online from untrusted suppliers!
